Surfing in Sayulita
Sayulita is a very pleasant place for its colorful atmosphere and set in the retro hippie style of the 70's.
It is visited by many foreigners to practice surfing, since the beaches of Sayulita and its surroundings have very fun, sharp, long waves to surf either for right-handed or left-handed surfers with classic point breaks, long tubed beach breaks and gentle longboard waves and strong offshore winds.
Learn to surf or rent a board:
As Sayulita is a surfing destination, you can find on the beach and surroundings different schools to learn to surf as well as the possibility of renting a surfboard.
Some schools are located on the beach which offer surf lessons for beginners and intermediates, guided surf trips to different points of surf area and rental of equipment such as surfboards and more.
Where to surf in Sayulita:
In front of the village “the main beach of Sayulita” offers an ideal wave for longboarders and also for shortboarders.
The best time to surf and take the best sets is when the tide is low or medium, although care must be taken since the bottom has rocks and usually the beach is very crowded by bathers.

La Lancha Beach
Playa La Lancha, located in Punta de Mita, approximately 30 min. drive from Sayulita and 20 min. hike from the road, offers very fun waves both left and right with 2-3 different peaks to choose from with epic views and quiet-moderate lineups ideal for long and short boards.
The best time to surf at La Lancha is with the incoming or outgoing tide.

Veneros or Destiladeras Beach
Playa Veneros or Destiladeras, is a beach break of sand from the right and left, located 25 min. from Sayulita, in front of the town of Punta de Mita.
It is frequented by boogie boarders and short boarders. It features consistent, gentle waves for beginner and intermediate levels.

Burros Beach
Playa Burros, is one of the best and most consistent surf spots in the area, intermediate and advanced surfers love this place.
It is perfect for longboarders and shortboarders, has a reef bottom and a swell from south to southwest. Located 40 min. by car from Sayulita.
